About the Developer
I (Dhruvir Zala) built Expensica because I was tired of complex spreadsheets and privacy-invading finance apps.
I wanted something that worked the way my brain works — quick to use, beautiful to look at, and completely private.
What started as a tool for myself became something others found valuable too. Now I’m committed to making the simplest, most effective money tracker possible, while keeping it free and open-source.
This plugin is free, but development runs on coffee. Your support directly fuels new features and improvements.
Where is my data stored?
All your financial data lives in your Obsidian vault inside a folder called “expensica-data.” It’s just JSON files you can read, backup, or export.
Will this sync across devices?
Yes. Expensica works with however you currently sync Obsidian—whether that’s Obsidian Sync, iCloud, Dropbox, or Git.
Does it connect to my bank?
No, and that’s intentional. Bank connections create privacy issues and are surprisingly unreliable. Manual entry takes seconds and gives you immediate awareness of your spending.
What if I make a mistake?
Just edit or delete any transaction with two clicks. No complicated corrections or adjustment entries.
